Gertie
Seldom seen, often mentioned
Hope everyone is in the midst of a good holiday season! Some art…
This is Gertie, played by Connie Cezon, the rarely seen secretary from the Perry Mason TV series. She’s the sixth cast member I’ve drawn, there’s a couple more recurring characters to do, but I’m approaching the end of that run. They’ve all been gifts, and this one has been received, so it’s time to share!
It felt good to drop down some ink - I’ve been working digitally more lately, although I’ve also managed to hit up a couple of figure drawing sessions in the last couple of months, and I have no use for screens in that environment. I managed to get a couple of drawing last time that I don’t mind other people seeing, so I’ll have a post with that art pretty soon, too.

I’m on the verge of signing up for a couple of conventions for ‘25, as well as joining a group printmaking show a studio/gallery in Portland. These will be my first appearances since ‘22, but realistically since ‘19. My life has changed pretty dramatically in that span of time, but I’m drawing again and it’s time to assert myself as an artist again, as best I can in the time I have. There may be one or two more conventions I make next year, rest assure you will hear about them as soon as they’re locked in.

More often than ever, I find myself quoting this meme. The world is indeed a fuck. My holidays have been okay (aside from a little ambulance ride and ER visit on Thanksgiving - I’m fine now), but there are ups and there are downs. I found out last night that a dear friend of mine suffered an aneurysm about a month ago, and that’s why I hadn’t heard from her. I sent a Merry Christmas message, and got that news from her family in return. I’m trying to figure out whether she’s able to receive visitors or not, you can’t take people’s presence for granted. Kim was a close friend of my mom’s, and unfortunately both of our mothers passed away about a month apart from each other, which gave us a very painful common situation, but also someone else who understood exactly what the other was going through. We don’t agree on everything, especially politically, but we can also talk openly and honestly with one another without going into rage mode, which is a rare and valuable thing.
I’m not a religious man, so prayer is kind of out for me, but whatever positive thoughts or prayers you’d care to offer a stranger for their recovery surely couldn’t hurt.

Your outro music of the day…
See you soon…
